JOE
is 8-10 years old. He was recently shaved due to the condition of his coat and is an oversized boy. Joe is lucky to be alive. He ended up a stray at a shelter in Rhinelander Wisconsin and was adopted out. For reasons unknown, Joe then snipped at his adopter causing her to return him to the shelter and demand a rabies quarantine.

  BETTY
came in named "Buddy", but since that's not really appropriate for a GIRL DOG, we changed it to Betty. She comes no matter what you call her. She is an oversized 8 years old and soon to be spayed. She loves playing with other dogs, big and small. She has some obedience training and is completely housebroken. She was surrendered by the family of her owner, who was hospitalized. (Don't worry Mom, this won't happen to your beloved pet if something happens to you!)
  CHARLIE
is a sweet 2 year old boy. He was surrendered by someone who got him and then didn't realize that shelties are not couch potatoes. Charlie is very snuggly, but also loves to play once he gets to know a person or his doggie playmates. If he could go to a home with another outgoing dog, he would be in heaven. Charlie is very fascinated with lights, either shadows or a flashlight. He also absolutely loves the water hose, but he won't go in the pool, just plays with the hose as the pool is filling up. Because of his high energy, he needs to go to a home who's interested in doing a lot of doggie activities with him.
  BANDIT
This poor guy was surrendered to a humane society because the landlord wouldn't allow him and for the first time in WSR history, I'm THANKING the landlord because these people really shouldn't have a dog! Poor Bandit was kept outside most of his life. he's happy to be an indoor dog now, but because of not being neutered (or vetted at all), he's working on crate training and doing very well.

  LACEY
She was part of a large animal seizure/hoarding case in Door Cty. She ended up at the humane society and we didn't see her on petfinder right away because she was listed as an aussie, a common mistake when shelters see a blue merle. Once we talked with them, they were thrilled that we could pay the adoption fee and take Lacey. She is a poor old girl who's probably had a tough life. I guess her to be around 10 years old. She has had untreated thyroid and ear infections, so now that she's on medication, her coat and skin should improve. She is completely housebroken and very sweet. Looking for a nice retirement home.

GOOGLE (l) and EBAY (r)
We received four female sable and white puppies from a mill dispersal in Southern Wisconsin. Two have been adopted, these two are still available. They are approximately 4-5 months old, and they are NOT your average little happy bouncy puppy. Imagine finding 8 week old kittens in your garage. THAT is what they are like and they will take very special homes to become happy members of society. They are looking for homes with another dog who would be a good role model and fences are a MUST. Smaller children would be too scary, but children over 10 might be ok. PLEASE do not apply to adopt one of these puppies just because they are cute purebred sheltie puppies. Yes, they're cute, but they are going to need alot of work in all aspects of their lives and the majority of the pet-owning public is not prepared for it.

CRAIG
is a 3 year old sable and white boy. He came from a mill dispersal in southern Wisconsin. He is Juno's son and since Juno is only 4-1/2 and Craig is 3, she was bred before she was even 1-1/2 years old. He is timid, but very sweet and snuggly.

JUNO
is a tri colored female who is 4-1/2 years old. She came from a mill dispersal in southern Wisconsin where the breeder bragged that she had already had 4 litters in her short life, one year she had two litters in the same year! Juno's breeding days are over and she's ready and deserving of the good life.

VICTOR
ended up at an allbreed rescue who found a great foster home for him, but a herding dog needs different training than most dogs, so Victor was unmanageable. He is very timid, but comes if he has a reason. LOVES playing with other dogs. Since he's so timid and doesn't come when called, he needs a home with a fenced yard and no children. Another dog would be best or at least a dog that he can play with on a regular basis. Victor is a beautiful blue merle between 1-3 years old.

LOGAN
This is the most adorable happy blue boy. Logan is four years old and was surrendered to a WSR adopter after meeting at a soccer game. I can't find anything wrong with this guy except that he wasn't neutered when he got here (is now) and was irritating to EVERYONE. My own Daisy Mae put him in his place a few times letting him know that she only has eyes for her boyfriend Spike. Hopefully Logan's hormones will settle down here in the next could weeks. He would be a great therapy dog and loves other dogs and cats. Great with children as long as they are respectful of animals and will be careful not to let him get away

  PIPER
is a 5 year old plus size tri color girl who was surrendered due to her owners not being able to care for her because of health problems. She is a nice girl, gets along with other dogs and is pretty quiet so far.
  RIGGINS
He is a big happy boy that was surrendered to rescue less than a week after his first birthday (11/12/07). He was surrendered because he is a normal active sheltie who sheds and the family wasn't prepared when they purchased him for this breed because the breeder in MN (Robin & Ruth Wright) probably didn't tell them the difference between shelties and Boston Terriers (the breed they had before). Riggins came with CKC papers, not AKC papers, a sign of a backyard breeder-bred dog. He is looking for a home with another active dog or a lifestyle that is going to keep him busy so he stays out of trouble.

Note to potential adopters:
While most dogs who come into Wisconsin Sheltie Rescue are posted on this page, a few go right to success. The dogs who went directly to success went home to pre-approved adopters.

You can become a pre-approved adopter by completing an adoption application, even if you don't see a dog on this page you like (yet!) -- this will give you the opportunity to express your preferences for the kind of dog who will fit into your life and family. (please note - all adopters are required to complete an application)

Our mission is to find the best home for the dogs in our program, in order for them to make a smooth transition to Leading the Sheltied Life in their forever home. Having an approved application on file is the best way for you to know of all the dogs in the WSR program, as well as for us to know of the greatest opportunities for the dogs in our care.

How to donate to WSR:
Adoption fees typically do not cover the entire cost of preparing dogs for their new forever homes. WSR also relies on the generosity of donors to help cover vet fees, food, etc. If you would like to donate, click on the button at right. Thank you for supporting the shelties in our care!
