| WSR
Statistics, 2000 |
| In the year 2000, WSR rescued 63 shelties, which included
7 mixed-breeds. There were 32 males and 31 females. Twelve were under
1 year old, 22 were 1-5 years old, 16 were 6-10 years old, and 13
were senior dogs over 10 years old. Four shelties were euthanized
for temperament reasons and two were euthanized for serious health
problems. One died naturally while in rescue. Twenty-seven shelties
came from shelters or humane societies and 36 were owner surrenders.
The main reasons that shelties ended up in rescue this year included
owner death, problems with children and dogs getting along, and just
plain owner ignorance regarding the breed and its characteristics.
There were also quite a few strays - these were mostly shelter dogs. |
