Success Stories - 2011

SULLY, formerly Alfie, has a great home with WSR sheltie Mac. He’s a mix without a lot of sheltie traits, but he sure is smart. He has already learned some badly needed manners and is working on teaching Mac how to play. His mom has her hands full.

TIMMY has a great home with a dog who is just a little whiter than he is. They previously adopted from American Eskimo Rescue and thought it was time for a little color. Timmy was excited to get to know them and I'm sure he will win over his new brother's heart in no time. They have already budgeted for a swimming pool for Timmy this summer so he'll get all the water time that he wants.

MICKEY is a sweet tri-color that was surrendered when his owner went into assisted living. He now has a more active home where he gets to go to Grandma and Grandpa's all the time. His dad rides a Harley so don't be surprised if you see Mickey in a sidecar at the reunion.

MAX has a terrific home where he gets to go to the dog park on a regular basis with a sheltie friend Hallie. He lives with a retired lady so he'll get all the attention he's been waiting for.

PONCHO has a great home with a nice fenced in yard and an aussie girl friend to chase around. I took him there on a rainy day and he went right outside to check out 'his' yard and go potty. Then he came in and started chewing on the bone that was on the living room floor. It looked like he had lived there his whole life!

REMMIE, formerly Callie, is a pretty bi-black girl that came in because she was too active for the senior citizen that purchased her as a puppy. She now has a great home but since her sheltie sister’s name is Allie, we couldn’t have Callie and Allie so she’s getting used to her new name.

ALEX is a pretty and petite 7 year old. Alex never stops wagging his tail. He was transferred here from another rescue. Alex was given up by a back yard breeder that didn’t want him anymore. He was living out behind a barn on a cable/runner in tall weeds. He was very matted and dirty. He seemed extremely happy to be freed from living outside in the weeds, and everyone that meets him loves him.

LADDIE, formerly Latte, has a terrific home where his ‘Grandpa’ lives next door so he gets to go there for daycare while Mom’s at work. He has TWO fenced in yards to play in!

DUKE makes his home with a great young couple and their pet rats who live a pretty laid back lifestyle. They were in the market for a middle aged dog who would like a home where it’s quiet. He’ll get lots of exercise and lots of love.

CASSIE went to her new home in Onalaska after being spayed. She will have a nice little sheltie role model to teach her how nice it is that she's not Amish anymore.

REMY went to her new home in Darlington with the nicest man and his senior dog. He has a motorhome, so hopefully everyone can meet him at the reunion next year

MOLLIE makes here home where Ginger lived until she recently passed away. Ginger wasn't a WSR dog, but she may as well have been since she attended all the events and reunions.

CODY was a little guy who was surrendered for 'guarding the mama', something HE thought was cute, but no one else did. He now lives with a new Mama and Dad and two human sisters who are going to keep reminding him that HE is the dog and THEY are in charge. Hopefully, he'll get the hint and be happy with his new lower status :)

BETTY stays with her foster mom. WSR was lucky to have a willing volunteer knowledgeable about pigs. After a few months of "foster", Betty is home.

BUDDY makes his home with a great couple who recently lost their sheltie. I knew as soon as I saw Buddy that he was 'the one' for them. When I took him to his new home, it was interesting because they live directly across the street from a house I lived in until I was 3 years old. Buddy has a beautiful yard and his dad is retired so they can hang out and watch Animal Planet all day.

ELVIS is a little puppy that came in from the TN rescue who purchased him and 13 other shelties at a dog auction. Elvis has some training to do, but he’s a sweet little energetic puppy who now lives in a house with two good sheltie role models.

SUNNY the little terrier mix that I was trying to find a home for since May has a new home! They met her at the reunion and fell in love, but the timing wasn’t right. Now they’ve been fostering her for a little while and decided that Sunny would make a good anniversary present to themselves!

WRIGLEY came in with Harley and now he has a nice home where he gets all the attention and lives close to a lake. His pastime will soon be tooling around the neighborhood on a four wheeler.

BUDDY will soon be going to a home where a previous WSR sheltie recently passed away. The couple took care of Buddy on Reunion Day but weren’t ready for a 2nd dog until their little senior guy went to the Rainbow Bridge.

KACIE has two great homes. One is a summer motorhome on the western side of the state near a lake where he’ll learn how to burn around on the four wheeler with his little Papillon girlfriend named Princess. The other in a nice house with two retired armed service folks who miss having a sheltie in their lives. He’ll get in lots of traveling and camping.

MALEAH has a great home with a woman and her senior sheltie. Maleah is ‘almost’ the queen of her house again. Her new little friend Benji is happy to give her the respect she commands and Maleah is having a blast going to the dog park and on walks. She might be the spunkiest little 7 year old ever to come to WSR.

CHIP and Lady went to their new home in Madison. They have a lovely fenced in yard and on Sundays in the fall, they can hear the band and cheers from Camp Randall Stadium only a block away.

LADY and Chip went to their new home in Madison. They have a lovely fenced in yard and on Sundays in the fall, they can hear the band and cheers from Camp Randall Stadium only a block away.

HARLEY makes his home without his brother Wrigley, who’s still available, but with some great folks who haven’t had a sheltie. I’m sure they’re keeping him busy enough so that he is enjoying being an only dog and getting all the attention.

TATE came to WSR from a shelter in Michigan. He is a whopping 6.5 pounds and just adorable. He now lives with two sheltie girls and a little mix.

TASHA makes her home with a great guy who learned about sheltie rescue through another adopter he met at a grocery store! Tasha came into rescue the very day she was picked and after a nice grooming and vet appointment, she was ready for her new home.

LASSIE the collie has a great home with three adopted mixed breed dogs her size she has plenty of playmates to horse around with (literally). I took her to their summer home where Lassie can lounge around out on the deck and watch boats go up and down on the water. I hope she doesn't bark at everyone!

LACEY makes her home with a great couple who adopted from a different sheltie rescue before. Lacey has some big shoes to fill because their previous sheltie, Toby, passed away unexpectedly due to veterinarian surgical complications so they were not expecting to lose him. I took Lacey to their house without them meeting her and she fit right in immediately. She has a beautiful yard to watch the birds and critters and someone who's home with her all the time.

CHELSEA went to her new home where there was previously a golden retriever. I took her there and she acted like she's lived there her whole life. When her owner travels, Chelsea gets a live-in petsitter to hang out with.

MINI is a busy little guy that came into rescue from a home that couldn't figure out that neutering a dog will stop the marking. He is neutered now and doing great in his new home with an easy going sheltie brother.

LUCA was fostered by a friend of mine while I was at the sheltie nationals and she decided that she'd like to keep him! She had a sheltie in the past and both of her dogs recently had passed away due to old age so Luca is an only dog and enjoying his daily walks and car rides out to Grandpa's house.

PORTER came into rescue after having three years of hardly any attention and now he can't get enough of it. He is a garbage hound and a counter surfer, both endearing qualities once you get used to it. He has a WSR sheltie sister named Belle and now lives in Minnesota with our web guru and her husband.

STORMY is a cute little bi black girl that was surrendered for economic reasons. She now has a home with WSR sheltie brother named Aidan in a quiet house where she'll get plenty of attention and playtime.

MOLLY (was Dixie) has a great home with Maggie and they have a big fenced-in yard. It took a while to coordinate them getting there due to vacations and other things, but it was worth it! They both have such different personalities that it will be interesting to hear how it’s going in a home together. I am putting my bet on Maggie to be the bossy one.

MAGGIE has a great home with Molly and they have a big fenced-in yard. It took a while to coordinate them getting there due to vacations and other things, but it was worth it! They both have such different personalities that it will be interesting to hear how it’s going in a home together. I am putting my bet on Maggie to be the bossy one.

CHIBI (was Darcy) makes her new home with a new name. Chibi means "tiny" or "small" in Japanese and compared to their other shelties, it fits her. She has a gorgeous blue merle brother named Merlyn and a nice big backyard where she can't wait for the weather to warm up and start exploring.

DUKE came into rescue with another sheltie from a situation where his owner died and left him in the care of an incompetent person who's family called us to take them. When he got here, we took him to the vet only to find out that he tested "Weak Positive" for Heartworm. More testing showed negatives so the treatment is going to be putting him on the preventative that he should have been on all along and hopefully in fall, he'll test negative again. Duke has a wonderful home with a couple who's been on the waiting list quite a while. Duke is excited about his new life and getting to go camping

DUNCAN the little peanut was lost in the LaCrosse area and ended up stuck in a silo where he was finally rescued. Our favorite shelter in the whole world, the Coulee Region Humane Society called us to take him and after a good dental, he no longer smells like skunk! Duncan has a nice home with a couple who recently lost their sheltie to old age and he will have a few cat siblings to keep him occupied.

SANDY is the 15 year old that came in with Maggie and wasn't spayed so at her age, it didn't make sense to do it anymore for her health so I had to find the perfect spot for her. Luckily, that person found me....as she has at least 15 times in the past 15 years.....I'm glad there are adopters out there who like the seniors! You haven't known the love of a dog until you've given a senior dog a good home.

MARLEY makes his home with a sheltie-experienced couple and the friendliest cat I've ever met in my life! They were already buddies when I left. They share a big huge fenced in yard and since mom stays home, Marley will get lots of attention and training. You might even see him in an agility ring soon....

MAGGIE the 15 year old that came in with her friend Sandy goes to a home up north with a veterinarian friend and her clan of different breeds of dogs (and lots of other shelties).

JASMINE has a great home in Greendale, WI with a nice family that hasn't had a dog before, but there are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood and since the kids are older, it was time. Jasmine is quite the little princess so she is excited to have her very own family and her choice of what bed to sleep on each night.

ARCHIE is a puppy boy that we took because a neighboring sheltie rescue (Second Chance in St. Louis) was full. He was a joy from the start and slept on my bed until he got to go to his new home. He has some big shoes to fill with Deb who recently lost Andre to old age.

BOWSER is a 1-1/2 year old party boy that we rescued from Craig's list - he was for sale for $40 and they threw in a broken crate for free...Thanks to the sneakiness of Jodi and Connie - they are getting better at telling people what they want to hear - Bowser now has a great home with a lady who has been looking for a sheltie a long time. She drove 3 hours to meet him and it was love at first sight. Bowser will now get to go to obedience classes and doggie daycare to burn off some of that young-boy energy!

SADIE (was Sunny) was a cute senior sheltie girl that came in from a shelter who got her as a stray. I have no idea how she became a stray because this is the most friendly girl ever! She now lives in a home with two sheltie brothers and since they are normally a 6-8 sheltie family, I have a feeling Sadie will have more new WSR brothers and sisters in her future.

SKYLER came to WSR through a "Free to good home" ad in the paper and now she's got one! At almost 10 years old and not spayed, vetted or groomed, Skyler must think she's living in heaven now. Well, ok, she wasn't too happy about being spayed or groomed, but that's ok...She has a wonderful home with an experienced sheltie owner who fell in love with her "poor me" face.

MISTER (was Chuck) is the adult male that came from South Dakota and he now lives in a home where he has someone home all day to play and cuddle with him. He has a 3 legged senior sheltie dog companion and a nice fenced yard to roam around. When I left him there, he looked at me as if to say “Will you please ask this woman to stop kissing my face?” He’ll get used to it.

COCOA has a great home with a woman who gets the Patience Award. She's been waiting for just the right sheltie for a long time and I finally found her Cocoa! They instantly bonded when I brought him to her house and he's already fully stocked with toys and all the things he needs to be an only dog again. He has a nice big back yard and a very helpful neighbor guy who's going to make sure that he gets the exercise that he needs.

RASCAL has a wonderful home in the great white north where she can watch the squirrels and wildlife to her hearts content. Rascal came into rescue because of a flexi leash. The senior citizen lady who was walking Rascal on one of these things had no control over her and she scared a neighbor so they made the choice to get rid of her. PLEASE do not use flexi leashes. They are very dangerous and you have no control over your dog.

AJAX lives with two other shelties close by WSR and he gets to learn how to use a doggie door. Luckily, their fenced in yard is in the back yard so he won't have the urge to chase cars along the fence any more.

WALKER now lives with a nice girl and her blue merle sheltie Trinity. They have a fenced in yard and for a bonus, Walker might get to go to work with mom once in a while.

ROSIE has some pretty big shoes to fill. She goes to a home where they lost WSR Sara a while back and weren't sure they could go through the heartbreak of losing a dog again. Rosie is only a year old so hopefully they won't have to worry about that for a long time.

TEDDY is a rambunctious 8 month old puppy that came into rescue because senior citizens didn't think far enough ahead when they purchased a puppy. Now he has a home with a big WSR sheltie boy named Boomer to romp around with and an old golden retriever to teach him some manners.

SADIE has a terrific home with a herd of animals just like my house! Her mom is a groomer who can't seem to say no to people who want to get rid of her pets so her home is full of love....and fur.....She has adopted senior WSR dogs before.
