1999 Success Stories -Part 1

TACO, that little peanut who was found by the Appleton airport and needed to be shaved due to heavy matting of his fur, found himself a great home today.   ELVIS: This "hound dog" went to a great family who lives on the lake near WSR and will make his home with a sheltie named Mugsy who is his elderly twin.   SASHA: This sable 11 year old female was fostered for one night and the foster home fell in love. She makes her home with a gorgeous sheltie named Cherry in MN.

PUPPIES ADOPTED:
KATO: This little bi-black male pup is going to make a great little brother to a sheltie that was adopted from the IL rescue. He makes his home in Elgin, IL
JASMINE: This tri-colored female pup from Phoebe's litter makes her home in Appleton. She has cousin Riley to play with since they are neighbors. RILEY: This bi-blue pup from Taylor's litter makes his home in Appleton with a nice woman and a couple of gorgeous cats. HONEY:This bi-blue puppy from Taylor's litter makes her home in Appleton.
SHADOW: This tri-girl from Phoebe's litter makes her home in Green Bay with a couple who recently lost their sheltie (also named Shadow) to a rare skin disease.

SAMMI: This bi-black girl from Taylor's litter makes her home in Appleton with a couple and their other sheltie, Tina.
BELLA: This little blue girl makes her home in Neenah with a single woman who has been waiting for just the right dog. Bella will have a few cats to play with as she's growing up. AVERY: This blue girl from Princess' litter makes her new home in Oconomowoc with a family who have been on the waiting list for a long time. JOEY: This tri-boy from Princess litter made his move to Iron Mountain MI to live with a very excited family as their first dog.

KODA: Princess' daughter now has a sister, Tiffy, who was adopted from WSR two years ago. Both live in Warrenville, IL.

CHANCE: This five-month-old sable boy came from a Missouri puppymill. He has a level 5 heart murmur and will not live to see adulthood. He is not available for adoption, but living in Iorn Mountain with Shadow, Confetti and the gang, making the most of the time he has left.

MIKEY: This little puffball has moved in with a new family in Elkhorn. The couple had had a sheltie for many years, and have been waiting a long time to get another dog. We at WSR hope Mikey can fill Tucker's shoes!

MAX: The webmaster's beloved favorite WSR sheltie, Max, accompanied his new family home to Round Lake Beach, IL today. Max is a 4 year old sable and white boy from Iowa. His first owners were moving to a trailer court and couldn't/wouldn't take him with them. Max has a beautiful head, gorgeous, deep almond shaped eyes, is a major "hugger" and a "leaner". Take good care of him, folks! :)

PHOEBE: She was adopted by a family in Sun Prairie. Phoebe was one of the puppmill mother dogs. She is a white faced blue merle (has tan on her legs) who is 3-1/2 years old, and extremely tiny! She has a litter of seven puppies (including an all-white one!) that were born on February 23rd, six weeks before Wisconsin Sheltie Rescue acquired them.

MISTY: Has moved to Appleton where she shares her new home with a tri-colored sheltie named Baby. This is the only sable/white that came from the puppymill. Her puppies were sold (too young) before we got there. After an emergency stop at the vet for mastitis and an upper respiratory infection, she is well on her way to a happy life. She is six years old. She is the most timid of the bunch and hits the deck every time she is approached, but feels comfortable being tied out on the deck as long as you don't try to walk her.
BUDDY: Shares his new home in Milwaukee with a cocker spaniel and a bassett hound. He will be starting agility training soon. He was originally turned in to collie rescue because of his size, but after studying his features, we decided he was closer to a sheltie. He is the size of Prince (for those of you who met the barking wonderboy at the reunion). He has a beautiful tri-color coat. The owner was going to shoot him for chasing his goats (imagine a herding dog chasing???) so the nice neighbor saved him and turned him in to rescue. He has a great temperament. We were told he was three years old, but he acts much younger.

ALLIE: Moved to Dekalb, IL, to be a wonderful pet to a nice woman...unfortunately for the woman, Allie took a shine to the woman's son instead! For those of you who met little old Sadie (who I have for the winter), Allie could be Sadies tri-colored twin. She is as round as she is tall with cute little prick ears and a sweet personality. She loves attention. She has a gorgeous coat. They said she was eight years old, but she acts more like 5 or 6. She was surrendered because the people are going to have children instead of a dog.
VINNIE: Has gone home to a wonderful Appleton man who lost his sheltie. Vinnie is a 5 year old beautiful sable boy from family who's having a baby and didn't have time for him anymore.
BANDIT: Went home on 2/28/99. He will live in Rosemount MN with a couple who've had shelties before. Bandit has come a long way since his arrival. He's now housebroken and well-behaved. This poor little guy came to WSR in quite rough shape from Dane County Humane Society: very matted, and with infected eyes. He was a stray and when the owners found out they had to pay $26 to spring him, they decided to leave him there. The Madison police are pressing charges for neglect.

KIT: Was adopted on 2/19/99. This tiny man is about 10 years old. He is very cute but had to have all his teeth pulled because they were rotten and painful. That doesn't stop him from eating like a pig though!!!!! He eats soft food mixed with dry. He is sable colored with some hair loss on his face that might have been due to frostbite at one time.
BO: Went to his new home in Glenbulah, WI. This reserved guy is a young 8 years old, completely trained, housebroken and up to date on his shots. Bo is a large dark sable who came to WSR from an elderly man that could no longer care for him.

MISTY: going home to Naperville, IL. She is a four year old light sable with a very foxy look, about 16 inches high and a bit overweight. An active family would be great with this girl although she would prefer to be in a home without cats (and the cat would probably prefer it also!!!!) She is good with children and with other dogs.

MISTY'S PUPPIES: all adopted and will go home after January 29th when they are spayed/neutered at 8 weeks of age. Their new homes are in Pewaukee, Rhinelander, Kaukauna, Colfax, Green Bay, Milwaukee, WI and out of state at Huntsville, AL and Crystal Lake IL.

NICCI: This little heartbreaker is between 3-5 years old. She came to WSR from lower Michigan where she was a stray at a shelter. She tested heartworm positive. She is almost housebroken, and has just received her last heartworm treatment. Due to the condition she was in when she arrived, she had to be shaved. Her fur is now starting to grow out and she's a very fuzzy light sable with a beautiful head and big brown eyes. She was adopted in January, and now lives in Waukesha. READ NICCI'S FULL STORY

LUCY: This sweet sassy little thing finally went to her new home during the holidays after her final treatment for heartworm. Her new home is in Appleton, with a young couple.

GOOSE: This petite blue merle female came from Missouri with the second group that was rescued from a puppy mill. She is now living in Sheboygan Falls with a sheltie sister Misty and her new mom and dad. Her new name is Effie.

FOXY: This gorgeous 3-year-old blue merle female came from the same place as Bo. Their owners had Parkinson's Disease and could no longer care for them. She now lives with a nice woman in Menasha whose own sheltie recently died. She also lives with a rabbit that she can herd!

MITZE: Now named Miko, came from a man who passed away and his family couldn't keep her. She is doing very well with her new family in Darboy, but still needs some work in car riding.

LICORICE: This quiet little tri-colored female hit the jackpot with her new home. She lives in Marinette with an older woman who has had shelties all her life. She has a huge fenced-in backyard and lots of attention. Thanks to Shadow's mom for delivering her to her new home.

CALLI: This 1-year-old from the first batch of Missouri puppy mill dogs is adjusting well to the good life she has now in Green Bay. She has a petite little sister, Brandi, to show her what being a real pet is like.

O'MALLEY: This is the four-month-old male from Missouri. He now lives in Virginia with a couple and their other sheltie, Darby. He is adjusting well to being a doggie brother, but still has a long way to go before he trusts humans. Thanks to a great network of people who got him to Virginia, especially Tiffany's mother, Joyce.

AJ: This fun-loving male came from Ozaukee County where he was surrendered because his owner got a job that 'didn't allow time for a dog' (#3 on the list of Stupid Reasons People Give Up Their Pets). He was adopted to a woman and her children in Appleton, but has since been kidnapped by their grandpa and has asked if he could stay living there! Since they already had Brandon the sheltie, AJ is going to continue living with Grandpa.

CHELSEA: This sable female is now living in Elgin, IL with a great family and their border collie, Bear. Chelsea has learned to use a doggie door (with a little help from Bear) and is now enjoying the good life. Hopefully she won't be brainwashed into becoming a Bears fan!

JASPER: This shy sweetheart was a breeder return and now lives with Laurie and Ken and her sheltie sisters Lacey and Joy.

PIXIE: This is the nine-year-old female that came to WSR with the first group of Missouri auction dogs. She is currently in foster care in Iron Mountain, being socialized. She's listed under "new adoptions" because normally when a dog goes to the Iron Mountain foster home, they never leave! (Thanks Linda!!)

PILGRIM: This little male was the hardest WSR dog rescue, to date. Animal Control in Sterling, IL wouldn't let WSR have him because he "looked" sick. After some nasty words on WSR's part, he's now living the good life in New York with other elderly shelties just like him.

TRAMP: This 5-year-old sable male came from Georgia and now lives in New London.

CHICO: This chubby little male now lives in Green Bay with a wonderful couple who have promised to keep him on his diet and be sure he gets plenty of exercise.

LADY: Lady, the stray from IL/WI border now lives in Oshkosh.

RILEY: This little 4-year-old sable male came to WSR from lower Michigan. He now lives in Elkhart Lake with a couple who had recently lost their young St. Bernard to illness.

KODI: This little peanut came in from Green Bay with the name of Duke, which really didn't fit him at all. Now he lives in Hilbert with a young couple.

LEXI: This petite little bundle of energy is just what her family had in mind. After bladder surgery to remove some stones, Lexi now enjoys the good life with a little boy and girl to call her own. She came to WSR from a single parent whose daughter had "outgrown" her, full of bladder stones. Lexi will be on special food all her life, but you'd never be able to tell she had a health problem by the way she flies around the back yard in Darboy with a frisbee in her mouth!

WINDSOR (Winnie): This little ham came from lower Michigan in the same trip as Nicci. She is the product of a divorce. (It's always hardest on the dog). She is a beautiful sable and 8 years old. After a slight potassium deficiency scare, she is up to snuff and strutting her stuff in Milwaukee with a nice woman whose daughter and son-in-law live right next door. Winnie has the run of TWO households!

PENNY: This little old sable female came from Antigo where Moss's mom rescued her from a situation where she was being neglected. From there she went to Shadow's house in Iron Mountain, MI, to be fostered. Shadow's Grandma and Grandpa ended up adopting little Penny and now she'll have a great life in Manistique, MI.
